Tanzania's Nelly Kamwelu is Miss Southern Africa

The inaugural Miss Southern Africa International, under management by Mumba Children's Project with marketing and publicity conducted by Bantu International Relations, took place on the 3rd July 2011 at the prestigious Mukuba hotel in Ndola, Zambia.
The countries represented in the pageant were Botswana, Congo, Lesotho, Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
During their week long stay in Zambia the contestants made a courtesy call to the mayor of Ndola. They visited Arthur Davison Children's Hospital where they comforted sick children and gave them toys. They attended a voluntary HIV testing centre on VTC commemoration day at Kanyenda Village in Mpongwe and visited the Mumba Daycare Centre in Mpongwe where they donated educational material to children.
The event was compered by legendary Zambian musician Pontiano Kaiche and the winner of Miss Personality at the local Miss Southern Africa Zambia pageant Mwiche Sichembe.
The awards on the star-studded night were as follows:
strong>• Best in traditional wear - Zambia (Percivia Chimfwembe Mulenga)
• Best in evening wear- Tanzania (Nelly Kamwelu)
• Best in swimwear- Congo (Ketia Sangwa)
• Miss Personality- Botswana (Benah Sekgabo)

With regards to the top three awards:
• Tanzania's Nelly Kamwelu was crowned the winner;
• Paulina Malulu of Namibia was 1st runner up; and
• Percivia Chimfwembe of Zambia was 2nd runner up
Miss Southern Africa International, Nelly Kamwelu, is the new ambassador for Breast and Cervical Cancer Network Zambia and was sashed with a special pink sash by a cancer survivor.
Nelly has won:
• a holiday to Seychelles where she will stay at the prestigious Le Meridien hotel (courtesy of Seychelles Tourism);
• vouchers for a holiday to the Lower Zambezi in Zambia (courtesy of Pro-flight Zambia); and
• a tour of Bumi Hills (courtesy of Bumi Hills Safari Lodge in Zimbabwe)
